Eligibility

  • Be a Spring 2026 graduating high school senior for the currently published cycle.
  • Be a University of Michigan Credit Union member in good standing when applying, or have a parent or guardian who is a UMCU member in good standing.
  • If qualifying through a parent or guardian, become a UMCU member and open a student account before the scholarship award is presented.
  • Plan to attend an accredited college, university, or technical school in the United States beginning in the 2026-27 academic year.
  • Employees, board members, and their immediate family members are not eligible.

Requirements

  • Complete the online UMCU Youth Scholarship application.
  • Respond to the required scholarship essay questions.
  • Read O.M.G. - Official Money Guide for Teenagers.
  • Respond to the financial wellness questions based on the required book.
  • Submit one 400-600 word letter of reference from a non-family member.

  3. 3Complete the online scholarship application.
  4. 4Answer questions about community involvement, academics, extracurricular activities, employment, educational plans, and financial wellness.
  5. 5Request a 400-600 word reference letter from a teacher, coach, mentor, employer, community leader, neighbor, or other non-family reference.
  6. 6Upload the required reference letter.
  7. 7Submit the complete application through UMCU's secure portal before the deadline.
