Tuition Reduction for Non-Resident Nursing Students

The Tuition Reduction for Non-Resident Nursing Students program allows eligible out-of-state students enrolled in nursing programs at Maryland public colleges and universities to pay the same tuition rate charged to Maryland residents. In exchange, recipients agree to work as full-time nurses after graduation.

Eligibility

  • Be a non-resident of Maryland.
  • Attend a two-year or four-year public institution in Maryland.
  • Be accepted into or enrolled in an eligible nursing program.
  • Remain enrolled in the eligible nursing program while receiving the tuition reduction.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress according to the standards of the institution.
  • Agree to complete the required full-time nursing service obligation after graduation.

Requirements

  • Complete the Tuition Reduction for Non-Resident Nursing Students application through the MHEC One-App in MDCAPS.
  • Remain enrolled in an eligible nursing program at a Maryland public institution.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • Sign the required promissory note.
  • Agree to work as a full-time nurse in a hospital or related institution after graduation.
  • Complete the required service obligation or repay the tuition assistance with interest.

How to Apply

  1. 1Confirm that you are classified as a non-resident of Maryland.
  2. 2Enroll in an eligible nursing program at a two-year or four-year Maryland public institution.
  3. 3Log in to MDCAPS and complete the Tuition Reduction for Non-Resident Nursing Students application through the MHEC One-App.
  4. 4Submit any required documentation through MDCAPS.
  5. 5If awarded, review and sign the required promissory note.
  6. 6After graduation, begin the required full-time nursing service within six months.
