Tomorrow’s Teachers Scholarship Program

The Tomorrow’s Teachers Scholarship Program provides substantial financial assistance to Massachusetts students pursuing approved undergraduate or post-baccalaureate educator preparation programs that lead to teacher licensure. The program is designed to address teacher shortages and strengthen the educator workforce in Massachusetts public elementary and secondary schools.

Eligibility

  • Physically reside in Massachusetts for at least one year as of the start of the enrolled term, with an intent to remain in Massachusetts consistent with Board of Higher Education policy.
  • Complete the FAFSA.
  • Meet applicable citizenship or Massachusetts tuition-equity eligibility requirements.
  • Not have previously earned a bachelor's degree or its equivalent, unless pursuing approved post-baccalaureate coursework in an educator preparation program at an eligible Massachusetts four-year public institution.
  • Enroll as a matriculated student in an approved undergraduate or post-baccalaureate program leading to teacher licensure.
  • Generally enroll full-time in at least 12 credits or the equivalent unless otherwise approved.
  • Pursue a course of study that meets licensure requirements for employment in a Massachusetts public elementary or secondary school.
  • Attend an eligible Massachusetts public university.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • Not be in default on federal or state student loans or owe a refund for previously received state financial aid.
  • Not simultaneously receive another Massachusetts financial aid workforce award such as the Early Childhood Educators Scholarship or Paraprofessional Teacher Preparation Grant.

Requirements

  • Complete the FAFSA.
  • Create or maintain a MASSAid Student Portal account.
  • Complete the Tomorrow’s Teachers Scholarship application through the MASSAid Student Portal.
  • Sign the required scholarship agreement and promissory note.
  • Submit an official transcript annually to document continued eligibility and progress toward degree completion.
  • Incoming first-year students must provide a declaration of major from the institution's registrar when required.
  • Complete the required Massachusetts public-school teaching service after finishing the approved educator preparation program.
  • Provide annual proof of qualifying employment while fulfilling the service obligation.

How to Apply

  1. 1Complete the FAFSA for the applicable academic year.
  2. 2Confirm that your Massachusetts public university and educator preparation program are eligible.
  3. 3Create a MASSAid Student Portal account if you do not already have one.
  4. 4Complete the Tomorrow’s Teachers Scholarship application when the 2026–2027 application opens in Fall 2026.
  5. 5Submit any required transcript, major declaration, or eligibility documentation.
  6. 6If awarded, sign the scholarship agreement and promissory note.
  7. 7Reapply and sign a new promissory note annually for continued scholarship funding.
  8. 8After completing your program, become employed as a qualifying Massachusetts public-school teacher within 12 months and complete the required service obligation.
