Teaching Fellows for Maryland Scholarship

Eligibility

• Be enrolled or plan to enroll at an eligible institution in an undergraduate or graduate program leading to a Maryland professional teacher's certificate.
• Enroll full-time or part-time.
• Agree to work after completing the program as a Maryland public school or public prekindergarten teacher.
• Agree to teach in a high-needs school identified by the Maryland State Department of Education or in a grade level or content area experiencing a shortage of qualified educators.
• Applicants seeking to change careers and pursue a program leading to Maryland teacher certification may qualify.
• Teaching assistants employed by a Maryland public school or public prekindergarten program for at least two years may apply as full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students.
• Applicants are not required to be Maryland residents.
• Applicants are not required to submit GPA, GRE, or SAT scores.
• A recipient may not already hold a Maryland professional teacher's certificate.

Requirements

• Complete the Teaching Fellows for Maryland Scholarship application through MDCAPS.
• Submit the appropriate high school, college, undergraduate, or graduate transcript based on applicant status.
• Submit a typed essay of at least 600 words describing exceptional dedication to or aptitude for teaching.
• Submit the Institutional Certification Form provided through MDCAPS.
• Teaching assistant applicants must submit the required employer verification form.
• Submit all required documents through MDCAPS by the application deadline.
• If awarded, sign the required promissory note and service obligation agreement.
• Maintain satisfactory academic progress for renewal.

How to Apply

1. 1Log in to MDCAPS and complete the Teaching Fellows for Maryland Scholarship application.
2. 2Confirm that your institution and program lead to a Maryland professional teacher's certificate.
3. 3Prepare the required typed 600-word essay describing your dedication to or aptitude for teaching.
4. 4Obtain the transcript required for your applicant category.
5. 5Have your institution complete the Institutional Certification Form provided through MDCAPS.
6. 6Teaching assistants should obtain the required employer verification documentation.
7. 7Upload all required materials through MDCAPS by October 15, 2026.
8. 8If awarded, review and sign the promissory note outlining the required teaching service obligation.
