Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Endowed Scholarship

Eligibility

• Be an incoming University of Minnesota first-year or transfer student for undergraduate consideration, or a newly admitted graduate or professional student.
• Document qualifying American Indian heritage.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Attend a University of Minnesota campus.
• Qualifying heritage may include enrollment in a federally recognized Tribe, eligibility for Tribal enrollment, identification as American Indian under the Indian Education Act, or identification as Canadian Indian under applicable Canadian law.
• Current undergraduate and graduate scholars must enroll full time and maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Requirements

• Complete the appropriate undergraduate or graduate SMSC Scholarship application.
• Provide documentation of qualifying American Indian heritage.
• Complete required financial aid information.
• Complete the FAFSA when required.
• Maintain full-time enrollment and applicable academic requirements after receiving the scholarship.

How to Apply

1. 1Apply and gain admission to the University of Minnesota.
2. 2Complete the appropriate SMSC undergraduate or graduate scholarship application.
3. 3Submit documentation of American Indian heritage.
4. 4Provide required financial need and financial aid information.
5. 5If selected, maintain full-time enrollment and academic eligibility.
6. 6Current scholars must complete FAFSA by June 1 for continued funding.
7. 7Undergraduate recipients may receive continued support for up to eight semesters depending on their degree program and academic performance.
