The Smith Scholarship Foundation supports Alabama high school seniors who demonstrate financial need, academic commitment, community service, family responsibility, and perseverance through significant personal or financial obstacles. Scholars may receive substantial multi-year financial assistance together with mentoring, counseling, professional preparation, internship support, and other student-success resources.

Eligibility

  • Be an Alabama resident graduating from an Alabama high school; homeschooled graduates are eligible.
  • Have a C+ academic average or higher; the homepage does not publish a numeric GPA conversion.
  • Plan to attend an Alabama college or university.
  • Demonstrate perseverance, service or family responsibility and financial circumstances relevant to the Foundation's mission.

Requirements

  • Complete the online application and essays.
  • File the 2027–28 FAFSA.
  • Provide a transcript and two recommendation letters.
  • Document volunteer service, leadership, activities and future goals.
  • Meet interview, verification and continuing-award obligations when required.
