Eligibility
- Graduate from a registered New York State high school and be nominated by the school based on academic performance.
- Attend an approved New York public or private college full-time in the fall after graduation, unless an approved postponement applies.
- Meet New York residency or applicable DREAM Act eligibility and maintain good academic standing.
- No income limit. Remain out of default on federal/state education loans and NYS award repayment, and satisfy prior NYS award conditions.
- Enroll in at least 12 degree credits; a cumulative C average is required after two full years of state aid.
Requirements
- Ask the high school counselor about nomination criteria and the school's deadline.
- If selected, complete FAFSA and TAP or the applicable DREAM Act application each year for payment.
- Generally two associate years, four bachelor’s years, or five for approved five-year degrees.
How to Apply
- 1Contact the high school counselor for the school's nomination schedule; students do not submit a separate statewide SAE application.
- 2After nomination, complete the annual state aid application for payment.
- 3Request a one-year postponement in writing before the first fall term. Enrolling out of state forfeits eligibility; returning to NY does not restore it.
- 4Ask the college about a final-term full-time waiver. Winter payments are unavailable; summer eligibility has prior-credit and enrollment conditions.
