Eligibility

  • Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
  • Be enrolled full-time or accepted for full-time enrollment in an accredited eligible health-professions program.
  • Attend an eligible program in the United States, District of Columbia, or an eligible U.S. territory.
  • Pursue an eligible primary-care discipline.
  • Eligible disciplines include physician, dentist, qualifying nurse practitioner, nurse-midwife, and physician assistant programs.
  • Be eligible for federal employment.
  • Not have a conflicting existing service obligation.
  • Agree to serve at an NHSC-approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area.

Requirements

  • Complete the online NHSC Scholarship Program application.
  • Submit proof of U.S. citizenship or national status.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation.
  • Submit all required supporting documentation.
  • Accept the NHSC service contract if selected.
