Nebraska Independent Fabric Shops Scholarship

Eligibility

• Be a Nebraska resident.
• Be a high school senior or college student.
• Be accepted to an accredited college, university, or community college.
• Have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.
• Share an interest in and appreciation for sewing.

Requirements

• Complete the Nebraska Independent Fabric Shops scholarship application.
• Submit a one-page essay titled "How Sewing Has Affected My Life."
• Discuss personal background, school activities, goals, how the applicant began sewing, preferred types of sewing, and why sewing is important.
• Submit a three-page portfolio containing photographs of at least five items personally sewn by the applicant.
• Submit a high school or college transcript.
• Submit two letters of reference.
• Submit one recommendation from a Nebraska Independent Fabric Shops member shop.

How to Apply

1. 1Complete the official NIFS scholarship application.
2. 2Prepare the required one-page sewing essay.
3. 3Create a three-page portfolio showing at least five personally sewn projects.
4. 4Obtain two reference letters.
5. 5Obtain a recommendation from a participating NIFS shop.
6. 6Attach the required transcript.
7. 7Submit the complete application packet to an approved NIFS scholarship submission location by March 31.
