Eligibility

  • Establish ND residency at least one year before October 15 of the year preceding professional-program entry.
  • Seek dentistry, optometry or veterinary medicine at an institution/program currently approved under ND's WICHE or separate contract arrangements.
  • Apply to professional schools separately; NDUS certification, school admission and state funding are separate decisions.
  • New entrants receive funding priority; unfunded continuing students may reapply for alternate consideration.

Requirements

  • Submit the ND SAMS PSEP application by October 15, 2026 for priority certification for fall 2027; later applications receive alternate consideration.
  • Veterinary applicants should apply much earlier: WICHE strongly encourages certification before September 15. Ask NDUS and each school immediately about remaining consideration.
  • Inform NDUS of admission offers and intended school by April 1 of the enrollment year, then sign the Statement of Intention & Commitment if selected.
  • Maintain continuous enrollment and institutional academic standards. Support does not cover repeat coursework, cannot be deferred and is suspended if you obtain another state's residency; full tuition reimbursement from another source disqualifies support.

How to Apply

  1. 1Check the NDUS approved institutions and professional fields and confirm ND residency certification requirements.
  2. 2Apply through the ND SAMS portal and separately apply/interview at each professional school.
  3. 3Keep NDUS updated on admission offers; spring funding decisions may come after a school's commitment deadline.
  4. 4If funded, sign the commitment statement and attend the designated school; update NDUS contact details annually and report post-graduation employment.
