The Montana Purple Heart Scholarship provides financial assistance to eligible Montana veterans who received the Purple Heart or a higher medal for combat-related military service and are continuing their education at a qualifying Montana public university, vocational or technical school, or tribal college.

- Be a recipient of the Purple Heart or a higher medal for combat-related service in the United States Armed Forces.
- Provide an authentic DD Form 214 or other authentic military discharge form verifying the qualifying combat-related award.
- Not have received a dishonorable or other-than-honorable discharge.
- Be a resident of Montana.
- Have completed a full academic year as either a full-time or part-time student at an eligible Montana educational institution, either before or after military service.
- Have maintained at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Reenroll to continue higher education at an eligible educational institution.
- Eligible institutions include qualifying Montana public universities, public vocational or technical schools, and tribal colleges.
Requirements
- Complete the Montana Purple Heart Scholarship application.
- Provide an authentic DD Form 214 or other qualifying military discharge documentation listing the applicable combat-related award.
- Provide documentation demonstrating Montana residency.
- Provide documentation of enrollment and reenrollment at an eligible Montana educational institution.
- Demonstrate a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
- Meet applicable program requirements regarding tuition costs and other educational assistance.
How to Apply
- 1Confirm that your Purple Heart or higher combat-related medal appears on your DD Form 214 or other qualifying military documentation.
- 2Confirm Montana residency and qualifying discharge status.
- 3Confirm that you have completed the required academic year at an eligible Montana institution and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.
- 4Complete the current scholarship application through Montana Veterans Affairs.
- 5Submit the required military and educational documentation.
