Montana Geological Society Annual Research Scholarship

Eligibility

• Be a full-time student working toward a BA, BS, MS, or PhD degree.
• Be enrolled in an accredited geology or earth science program at a U.S. college or university.
• Conduct dissertation, thesis, or senior-project research based at least partially in Montana.
• Submit a qualifying research project for review by the Montana Geological Society.
• Projects in the early to middle stages of research receive preferential consideration over projects at or near completion.

Requirements

• Submit a brief cover letter summarizing educational background, current student status, anticipated graduation date, and research interests.
• Submit a research-project summary of no more than 300 words.
• Obtain the research advisor's signature on the project summary.
• Submit a workflow timeline for the research project.
• Submit an estimated itemized annual research budget.
• Identify the amount and source of all other project funding in the budget.

2. 2Prepare a concise research summary of no more than 300 words describing the study area, purpose, and applicability of the project to Montana geology.
3. 3Obtain your research advisor's signature on the project summary.
4. 4Prepare a workflow timeline.
5. 5Prepare an itemized annual budget showing how MGS funding would be used and identifying other project funding.
6. 6Submit the complete application electronically by the annual deadline.
