Eligibility

  • Be a legal resident of Mississippi for at least one year prior to application.
  • Entering freshmen must graduate from high school with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA, earn a qualifying high school equivalency credential, or complete a homeschool program.
  • Entering freshmen must score at least 15 on the National ACT; superscores are accepted.
  • Currently enrolled college students must have at least a 2.5 cumulative college GPA after completing at least 12 credit hours.
  • Enroll full-time at an approved Mississippi postsecondary institution.
  • Pursue a program leading to a first certificate, first associate degree, or first bachelor's degree.
  • Be eligible for less than the maximum Federal Pell Grant as determined through the FAFSA.
  • Maintain continuous full-time enrollment and required academic progress.

Requirements

  • Complete the Mississippi Aid Application through MAAPP.
  • Complete the FAFSA or applicable state certification requirement.
  • Provide Mississippi residency documentation when requested.
  • Provide academic documentation showing qualifying GPA and ACT information.
  • Submit all required supporting documents by the published deadline.
  • Reapply for Mississippi state financial aid each academic year.

How to Apply

  1. 1Complete the Mississippi Aid Application through MAAPP beginning October 1.
  2. 2Complete the FAFSA to establish Federal Pell Grant eligibility.
  3. 3Submit residency and academic documentation if requested.
  4. 4Submit the state aid application by September 15.
  5. 5Submit all required supporting documentation by October 15.
  6. 6Monitor the MAAPP Dashboard for missing documents, eligibility updates, and award information.
  7. 7Complete a new MAAPP application each academic year.
