Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program

The Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program identifies Mississippi college students interested in rural medicine and supports selected participants through academic enrichment, mentoring, medical school preparation, and substantial medical school scholarship funding in exchange for a commitment to practice primary care in an approved rural Mississippi community.

Eligibility
- Be a permanent resident of Mississippi.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in rural medicine and future primary care practice in Mississippi.
- Undergraduate applicants must meet the MRPSP undergraduate academic and prerequisite-course requirements.
- Undergraduate applicants generally apply after completing the sophomore year of college or while completing the required prerequisite coursework.
- Medical-school scholarship applicants must be admitted to or attending a medical or osteopathic school in Mississippi.
- Medical-school scholars must complete an approved primary care residency.
- Medical-school scholars must agree to practice in an approved rural Mississippi community for a period equal to the number of years scholarship funding is received.
- Meet all additional requirements established for the applicable MRPSP program phase.
Requirements
- Complete the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program online scholarship application.
- Provide personal, residency, educational, and medical school information.
- Provide ACT, MCAT, BCPM GPA, and overall GPA information as applicable.
- Identify preferred primary care specialties.
- Identify Mississippi communities of 15,000 or fewer residents where you may wish to practice rural clinical medicine.
- Complete the required personal insight responses addressing rural medicine, professional goals, strengths, challenges, and related experiences.
- Acknowledge and agree to the program's residency training and rural Mississippi service requirements.
