Minority Teacher Education Scholarship

Eligibility

• Be a resident of Florida.
• Be African American or Black, Hispanic or Latino, Asian American or Pacific Islander, or American Indian or Alaska Native.
• Be admitted to and enrolled full time in a state-approved teacher education program at a participating Florida college or university.
• Be entering the junior or senior year of undergraduate study or be enrolled in an eligible graduate education program.
• Graduate students must be enrolled in a program leading to initial teacher certification.
• Have earned at least 60 college credit hours or an associate degree.
• Have completed no more than 18 credit hours of upper-division education coursework when applying.
• Have not earned a bachelor's degree in education.
• Maintain an overall and semester GPA of at least 2.5.

Requirements

• Complete the online Minority Teacher Education Scholarship application.
• Submit the required application essay.
• Arrange for official transcripts from every college or university attended to be sent directly to the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers.
• Enroll full time in a participating state-approved teacher education program.
• Undergraduate recipients must enroll in at least 12 credit hours per term.
• Graduate recipients must enroll in at least nine credit hours per term.
• Maintain an overall and semester GPA of at least 2.5.
• Attend the required annual Teacher Recruitment and Professional Development Symposium.
• Complete and return the scholarship promissory note within 30 days of receiving an award notification.
• Teach in a Florida public school for one year for each year scholarship funding is received.

How to Apply

1. 1Confirm that the intended Florida college or university participates in the Minority Teacher Education Scholarship program.
2. 2Verify enrollment in a state-approved educator preparation program.
3. 3Complete the online scholarship application.
4. 4Write and upload the required essay.
5. 5Request official transcripts from every institution attended.
6. 6Have each institution send the official transcript directly to the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers.
7. 7Monitor email for an award decision.
8. 8If selected, complete the required promissory note within 30 days.
