The Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative Scholarship supports graduating high school seniors from MVEC member-owner families who are continuing their education at accredited colleges, universities, vocational-technical schools, trade schools, or qualifying business colleges. Scholarships are funded primarily through MVEC's unclaimed capital credits and are selected by random drawing.

Eligibility

  • Be a graduating high school senior or qualifying non-traditional student from a private, parochial, or home school.
  • Have a parent or legal guardian who is an active Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative member-owner.
  • Plan to attend an accredited postsecondary institution.
  • Eligible institutions include colleges, universities, vocational-technical schools, trade schools, and business colleges offering an associate degree.
  • Begin classes during the fall following the scholarship award.
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.
  • Maintain full-time enrollment of at least 12 credit hours or the equivalent.

Requirements

  • Complete the Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative scholarship application.
  • Meet the MVEC member-family requirement.
  • Meet the applicable postsecondary enrollment requirements.
  • Recipients are asked to attend the MVEC Annual Meeting with a parent or guardian.
  • After the first quarter or semester, submit grades and proof of registration for the following term before scholarship payment.

How to Apply

  1. 1Confirm that your parent or legal guardian is an active MVEC member-owner.
  2. 2Complete the annual MVEC scholarship application.
  3. 3Submit the completed application by the published deadline.
  4. 4Eligible completed applications enter a random drawing within the appropriate MVEC district.
  5. 5Additional at-large scholarships are drawn at MVEC's Annual Meeting.
  6. 6If selected, begin qualifying postsecondary education in the fall.
  7. 7After completing the first quarter or semester, submit grades and proof of continued registration to receive scholarship funds.
