Minnesota Student Teacher Grant

Eligibility

• Be enrolled at a Minnesota institution in a PELSB-approved teacher preparation program.
• Be completing at least 12 weeks of student teaching for a Tier 3 teaching license during the current academic year.
• Clinical or practicum hours alone do not satisfy the student teaching requirement.
• Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements established by the institution.
• Not be in default on a federal or state student loan.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Meet at least one Student Teacher Grant program requirement.
• Qualifying program requirements include intending to teach in a designated rural Minnesota school district, intending to teach in an identified licensure shortage area, or belonging to a racial or ethnic group underrepresented in the Minnesota teacher workforce.

Requirements

• Complete the Minnesota Student Teacher Grants application.
• Complete the FAFSA or Minnesota Alternative State Financial Aid Application.
• Have the Financial Aid Office at the student's institution submit the required financial data form.
• Complete the required student teaching experience during the academic year for which the student applies.
• Submit a complete application by the applicable term cutoff date.

How to Apply

1. 1Confirm enrollment in a PELSB-approved Minnesota teacher preparation program.
2. 2Confirm that the required student teaching experience will last at least 12 weeks and lead toward a Tier 3 teaching license.
3. 3Complete the FAFSA or Minnesota Alternative State Financial Aid Application.
4. 4Access the Student Teacher Grants application through the MNAid Student Portal.
5. 5Complete and submit the Student Teacher Grants application for the applicable student teaching term.
6. 6Work with the institution's Financial Aid Office to ensure the required financial data form is submitted.
7. 7Submit the complete application as early as possible, preferably by the applicable priority deadline.
8. 8Track application status through the MNAid Student Portal.
9. 9If applying after the priority deadline, understand that eligibility will be reviewed based on remaining funding and the applicant may be placed on a waitlist.
