MI Future Educator Fellowship

The MI Future Educator Fellowship provides substantial scholarship assistance to future Michigan teachers who are admitted to an approved Educator Preparation Program and working toward their initial teacher certification. Recipients agree to teach in Michigan after completing their program.

Eligibility

  • Complete the current-year FAFSA.
  • Complete the annual MI Future Educator Fellowship application.
  • Be admitted into an eligible Educator Preparation Program approved by the Michigan State Board of Education.
  • Be working toward an initial teacher certification.
  • Be enrolled full-time during the academic year, or the equivalent for students in an alternative certification program.
  • Have reached junior grade level according to the institution's definition.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Have been a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year.
  • If considered a dependent student, have FAFSA contributors who also meet the Michigan residency requirement.
  • Complete a Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement.

Requirements

  • File the current-year FAFSA.
  • Complete the MI Future Educator Fellowship application through the MiSSG Student Portal.
  • Have the participating institution confirm program and student eligibility.
  • Complete the Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement.
  • Maintain full-time enrollment or equivalent participation in an approved Educator Preparation Program.
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements for renewal.

How to Apply

  1. 1Complete the current-year FAFSA.
  2. 2Create or log in to a MiSSG Student Portal account.
  3. 3Complete the 2026-27 MI Future Educator Fellowship application by June 15, 2027.
  4. 4Wait for the participating institution to verify enrollment and additional eligibility requirements.
  5. 5Watch for the Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement sent electronically after eligibility is confirmed.
  6. 6Complete the Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement by July 15, 2027.
  7. 7Continue meeting enrollment, GPA, residency, and academic progress requirements for future awards.
  8. 8Reapply annually through MiSSG and submit a current FAFSA for renewal consideration.
