Maryland Police Officer and Probation Agent Scholarship Program

Eligibility

• Be a Maryland resident or have graduated from a Maryland high school.
• Be accepted for admission or currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an eligible Maryland public senior institution.
• Enroll full-time or part-time.
• Pursue a degree program that furthers the applicant's career or intended career as a police officer or probation agent.
• Current police officer applicants must serve in a qualifying Maryland law enforcement agency and be authorized to enforce the general criminal laws of the state.
• Current probation agent applicants must serve as an eligible parole and probation agent, supervisor, or regional administrator with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
• Applicants planning to enter the profession must intend to work as a police officer or probation agent in Maryland after graduation.

Requirements

• Complete the Maryland Police Officer and Probation Agent Scholarship application through the MHEC One-App in MDCAPS.
• Current police officers or probation agents must provide documentation confirming qualifying employment when applicable.
• Applicants who graduated from a Maryland high school but are not Maryland residents must submit a final high school transcript.
• Submit documentation from the institution confirming enrollment in a degree program that furthers a career in law enforcement.
• If awarded, sign the required promissory note and service obligation agreement.
• Renewal recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
• Renewal recipients must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
• Renewal recipients must continue qualifying full-time or part-time enrollment.

How to Apply

1. 1Log in to MDCAPS and complete the Maryland Police Officer and Probation Agent Scholarship application through the MHEC One-App.
2. 2Obtain documentation from your institution confirming that your degree program supports a career as a police officer or probation agent.
3. 3If currently employed in law enforcement or probation, obtain documentation verifying your qualifying employment.
4. 4If relying on Maryland high school graduation rather than current Maryland residency, obtain your final high school transcript.
5. 5Upload all required documents through MDCAPS by October 15, 2026.
6. 6If selected, review and sign the promissory note and service obligation agreement.
7. 7After graduation, complete the required Maryland police officer or probation agent employment obligation.
