Lower Sioux Higher Education Tuition Assistance

The Lower Sioux Higher Education Tuition Assistance Program helps qualified Lower Sioux Indian Community members pay tuition and required books while pursuing accredited associate, bachelor's, master's, doctoral, certificate, or licensing programs. Students work directly with the Lower Sioux Education Committee and Community Council to establish an approved education plan.

Eligibility

  • Be a qualified member of the Lower Sioux Indian Community.
  • Meet with the Lower Sioux Education Committee regarding higher education plans.
  • Attend an accredited college or other approved educational institution.
  • Pursue an associate, bachelor's, master's, doctoral, certificate, or licensing pathway approved by the Education Committee and Community Council.
  • Complete the FAFSA annually.
  • Apply for at least one outside scholarship and provide proof of acceptance or denial.
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA or C average each semester or quarter.
  • Certificate and licensing programs generally must be at least six months long.
  • Incarcerated individuals are not eligible.

Requirements

  • Meet with the Education Committee.
  • Complete the Lower Sioux Student Packet.
  • Submit an acceptance letter.
  • Complete FAFSA and provide the financial aid award letter.
  • Provide proof of applying for at least one outside scholarship.
  • Submit class schedules, tuition bills, required book receipts, and grades each term.
  • Sign the required tuition-assistance repayment and forgiveness agreement.

How to Apply

  1. 1Schedule a meeting with the Lower Sioux Education Committee.
  2. 2Explain the proposed higher education plan.
  3. 3If approved to proceed, obtain and complete the Student Packet.
  4. 4Complete FAFSA and obtain the financial aid award letter.
  5. 5Apply for at least one outside scholarship and retain proof of the decision.
  6. 6Submit the acceptance letter, schedule, tuition bill, book information, and other required documents.
  7. 7Sign the required assistance agreement.
  8. 8Obtain Education Committee and Community Council approval.
  9. 9Submit grades and registration documentation before each subsequent term of funding.
  10. 10Complete the approved program so the tuition assistance can be forgiven under program rules.
