Libertus-Rice Transfer Scholarship

Eligibility

• Be Native American through Tribal enrollment or documented affiliation or lineage.
• Be enrolled or in the process of enrolling as a transfer undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
• Students transferring or preparing to transfer from a Tribal college or university are especially encouraged.
• Take or have previously taken at least one American Indian Studies course.
• Remain in good academic standing to receive the full scholarship award.

Requirements

• Submit a personal statement of no more than one to two pages.
• Explain Tribal enrollment or affiliation with a specific Native American community.
• Describe the applicant's financial need.
• Explain why the applicant chose the University of Minnesota.
• Explain how the applicant's studies may help serve their Tribal community and strengthen relationships between the University and Tribal communities.
• Submit unofficial transcripts from the University of Minnesota and other colleges attended.
• Submit one letter of recommendation from a non-family member.

How to Apply

1. 1Confirm transfer admission or planned transfer to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
2. 2Confirm documented Native American Tribal enrollment, affiliation, or lineage.
3. 3Complete or plan to complete at least one American Indian Studies course.
4. 4Prepare the required one-to-two-page personal statement.
5. 5Gather unofficial transcripts from all applicable colleges.
6. 6Request one recommendation letter from a non-family member.
7. 7Monitor the Department of American Indian Studies scholarship page for the current application period and submission instructions.
8. 8Submit all required materials once the annual cycle opens.
