Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship

The Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship supports Kansas students and current educators preparing to teach in hard-to-fill disciplines or underserved geographic areas. Eligible recipients may pursue bachelor's or master's degrees, new teaching endorsements, or advanced study that strengthens classroom teaching in critical-need areas.

Eligibility

  • Be a Kansas resident.
  • Attend a Kansas higher education institution.
  • Be enrolled in a program leading to teacher licensure in an identified hard-to-fill discipline or preparing to teach in an underserved Kansas geographic area.
  • Current licensed teachers may qualify while pursuing a new endorsement in a hard-to-fill discipline.
  • Current licensed teachers may qualify while pursuing a master's degree in a hard-to-fill discipline or underserved geographic area.
  • Eligible degrees must focus on developing classroom teaching skills.
  • Counseling, administration, and library or media specialist programs are not eligible.
  • Recipients may enroll full time or part time with a minimum of three credit hours per semester.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.

Requirements

  • Complete the State of Kansas Student Aid Application.
  • Submit official college transcripts from every institution where coursework has been completed.
  • Submit at least one academic or employment-related letter of recommendation on official letterhead.
  • Current teachers must submit a copy of their teaching certificate or license.
  • Sign the required scholarship agreement and promissory note if selected.
  • Complete the degree, licensure, or endorsement program specified in the scholarship agreement.
  • Obtain and maintain the required Kansas teaching license and endorsement.
  • Fulfill the required teaching service obligation after completing the funded degree program.

How to Apply

  1. 1Confirm that your teaching field or intended service area qualifies under the current Kansas shortage list.
  2. 2Complete the State of Kansas Student Aid Application.
  3. 3Request official transcripts from all colleges where you have completed coursework.
  4. 4Request at least one academic or employment-related recommendation letter.
  5. 5If already licensed as a teacher, upload your current teaching certificate or license.
  6. 6Submit all required documents through the Kansas state financial aid portal by June 1.
  7. 7If selected, sign the scholarship agreement and promissory note.
  8. 8After completing the funded degree program, begin qualifying Kansas teaching service within six months of licensure.
