Kansas Military Service Scholarship

Eligibility

• Be a Kansas resident.
• Have served in military service in international waters or on foreign soil after September 11, 2001 in support of a military operation for which hostile fire pay was received.
• Have completed at least 90 days of qualifying military service, unless service lasted fewer than 90 days because of an injury sustained during that military service.
• Have received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions, or currently remain in military service.
• Provide military documentation showing the qualifying deployment and service after September 11, 2001.
• Attend an eligible Kansas public postsecondary institution.
• Pursue undergraduate coursework; students classified by their institution as graduate students are not eligible.
• Demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA because financial need receives priority in awarding.

Requirements

• Complete the Kansas Military Service Scholarship application.
• Complete the FAFSA.
• Provide a DD-214 or applicable active-duty orders documenting qualifying military service.
• Provide documentation showing deployment location and eligibility for hostile fire pay.
• Maintain eligibility for undergraduate enrollment at an eligible Kansas public institution.
• Meet satisfactory academic progress requirements established by the attending institution.

How to Apply

1. 1Complete the FAFSA for the upcoming academic year.
2. 2Create or log into the Kansas Board of Regents state financial aid portal.
3. 3Complete the Kansas Military Service Scholarship application.
4. 4Upload your DD-214 or active-duty orders and any other required military documentation.
5. 5Confirm that your Kansas institution participates in the program.
6. 6Submit the application and documentation by the May 1 priority date.
7. 7Renew the application and FAFSA as required while continuing to receive the scholarship.
