The Kansas Education Opportunity Scholarship helps first-generation college students and dependents of Kansas teachers or paraprofessionals earn their first undergraduate degree. The scholarship combines financial need with academic progress and gives priority to graduating high school seniors entering college and renewal recipients.

Eligibility

  • Be a permanent Kansas resident.
  • Be a first-generation college student, meaning neither parent nor legal guardian has completed a bachelor's degree, or be the dependent of a qualifying Kansas teacher or paraprofessional.
  • For teacher or paraprofessional eligibility, the parent or guardian must be actively employed in Kansas in grades pre-K through 12; long-term substitutes do not qualify.
  • Enroll full-time as an undergraduate student at an eligible Kansas college.
  • Be pursuing a first undergraduate degree.
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined through FAFSA information and federal methodology.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress toward the degree.

Requirements

  • Complete the FAFSA.
  • Complete the Kansas Education Opportunity Scholarship application.
  • Dependent applicants applying through the teacher or paraprofessional pathway must submit an Employment Verification Form.
  • Teacher or paraprofessional dependent applicants must provide a birth certificate or adoption certificate documenting the relationship.
  • Renewal applicants using the teacher or paraprofessional pathway must provide updated employment verification annually.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress and all continuing eligibility requirements.

How to Apply

  1. 1Complete the FAFSA for the upcoming academic year.
  2. 2Create or log into the Kansas Board of Regents state financial aid portal.
  3. 3Complete the Kansas Education Opportunity Scholarship application.
  4. 4If applying as the dependent of a teacher or paraprofessional, obtain the required employment verification and relationship documentation.
  5. 5Submit all required materials by May 1.
  6. 6If selected, maintain full-time enrollment and renew eligibility each academic year.
