Eligibility

  • Have entered active-duty military service from a permanent home address in Indiana.
  • Have received the Purple Heart decoration or been wounded as a result of enemy action.
  • Have received a discharge or separation from the United States Armed Forces other than a dishonorable discharge.
  • Be eligible for the resident tuition rate at the attending Indiana public college or university.
  • Pursue a Title IV-eligible undergraduate, graduate, professional, degree, or certificate program after high school graduation.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress at the attending institution.
  • Meet applicable federal and Indiana financial-aid eligibility requirements.
  • Not be in default on a federal student loan or owe repayment of federal student aid.
  • Not be incarcerated in a federal or Indiana correctional facility.

Requirements

  • Complete the one-time Tuition and Fee Exemption for Indiana Purple Heart Recipients application through ScholarTrack.
  • Complete an error-free FAFSA for each academic year the benefit will be used.
  • Provide military service records showing entry into active duty from an Indiana permanent address.
  • Provide documentation of the Purple Heart award or qualifying wound caused by enemy action.
  • Provide discharge or separation documentation.
  • Maintain Indiana resident tuition eligibility.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
