The Indiana Student Teaching Scholarship for High-Need Fields provides financial support to undergraduate education students completing student teaching in special education or middle or high school mathematics or science. Recipients agree to apply for teaching positions in Indiana and, if hired, teach in the state for at least three years.

Eligibility

  • Be enrolled in a course of study leading to teaching certification in special education or middle or high school mathematics or science.
  • Complete student teaching as part of degree requirements during the semester for which the scholarship is requested.
  • Meet the cumulative GPA required by the institution for admission to its school of education.
  • Attend an eligible Indiana institution.
  • Be an Indiana resident by December 31 of the year before applying for aid.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • Be a first-time undergraduate student.
  • Complete student teaching at an Indiana school authorized by the Indiana Department of Education.
  • Agree to apply for a teaching position at an accredited Indiana school after certification.
  • If hired, agree to teach in Indiana for at least three years.

Requirements

  • Complete the FAFSA.
  • Complete the Student Teaching Scholarship for High-Need Fields application through ScholarTrack.
  • Verify enrollment in an eligible educator preparation program.
  • Verify placement in an authorized Indiana student-teaching assignment.
  • Meet the academic requirements established by the institution's school of education.
  • Sign the required Indiana teaching-service commitment.
