Howard P. Rawlings Educational Assistance Grant

Eligibility

  • Be eligible for in-state tuition in Maryland.
  • Submit the FAFSA or MHEC One-App by the annual consideration deadline.
  • List at least one Maryland college or university on the FAFSA or MHEC One-App by the consideration deadline.
  • Demonstrate financial need as calculated by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
  • Be a currently enrolled high school senior or a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student at an eligible two-year or four-year Maryland institution.
  • Enroll full-time for at least 12 credits per semester as an undergraduate student.
  • Not have earned a bachelor's degree before the start of the applicable academic year.
  • Submit any additional documentation requested by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

Requirements

  • Submit the FAFSA or MHEC One-App by the published consideration deadline.
  • Maintain an MDCAPS account and monitor it for award information and documentation requests.
  • Submit any required documentation by the applicable documentation deadline.
  • Continue demonstrating financial need.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress according to the standards of the enrolled institution.
  • Continue meeting Maryland in-state tuition eligibility requirements.
  • Renewal recipients who have received the award for at least two years must meet applicable annual credit completion requirements.

How to Apply

  2. 2List at least one Maryland college or university on the financial aid application.
  3. 3Create or access your MDCAPS account.
  4. 4Monitor MDCAPS for eligibility information, award notices, and requests for additional documentation.
  5. 5Submit any requested documentation through MDCAPS by the published deadline.
  6. 6Qualified students are automatically considered for the Educational Assistance Grant; there is no separate EA Grant application.
