Eligibility

  • Be approximately 18 to 25 years old at the time of application.
  • Pursue a career in construction.
  • Qualify through direct hire by a residential builder or subcontractor, post-high-school construction trades training, or a two-year college construction or construction-trades program.
  • Applicants originally from Southeastern Michigan receive preference whenever practical.

Requirements

  • Complete the HBA Skilled Trades Scholarship application.
  • Submit high school transcripts.
  • Submit two written recommendations.
  • One recommendation must be from a teacher from within the previous two years.
  • One recommendation must be from an employer or other non-relative adult.
  • Provide proof of hire by a builder or subcontractor, acceptance into a trades-training program, or acceptance into a two-year college program.
  • Complete the written scholarship responses.
