The Georgia Foster Care Scholarship helps eligible current and former foster youth, certain adopted students, and students whose families received qualifying adoption services pay educational costs while pursuing an undergraduate degree, certificate, or diploma at an eligible Georgia institution.

Eligibility

  • Meet United States citizenship or eligible noncitizen requirements.
  • Be a legal resident of Georgia.
  • Be younger than 26 on the first day of the postsecondary term for which funding is requested.
  • Enroll in at least six credit hours at an eligible Georgia public or private college, university, or technical college.
  • Pursue an undergraduate degree, technical certificate, or diploma.
  • Meet the institution's satisfactory academic progress policy.
  • Be in compliance with applicable Selective Service and Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education requirements.
  • Not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial-aid program.
  • Meet at least one of the published foster-care or adoption eligibility pathways.

Requirements

  • Complete the FAFSA for every academic year in which funding is requested.
  • Successfully complete any FAFSA verification required by the institution.
  • Complete the one-time Georgia Foster Care Scholarship application.
  • Submit official documentation verifying the qualifying foster-care, adoption, independent-living, or adoption-services history.
  • Confirm continued enrollment with the Georgia Student Finance Authority each year.
  • Submit any additional residency, citizenship, enrollment, or eligibility documentation requested.

How to Apply

  1. 1Create or access a GAfutures student account.
  2. 2Complete the current-year FAFSA.
  3. 3Complete the one-time Foster Care Scholarship application when it becomes available.
  4. 4Upload supporting foster-care or adoption documentation through the GAfutures document-upload system.
  5. 5Submit the application as early as possible before the first day of the first term for which funding is requested.
  6. 6Confirm continued enrollment annually so ongoing eligibility can be reviewed.
