The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund provides educational assistance to dependent children of qualifying U.S. military service members who were killed, became totally and permanently disabled because of qualifying combat or training circumstances, suffered certain severe combat injuries, were classified as POW or MIA, or received specified military decorations.

Eligibility

  • Be the dependent son or daughter of a qualifying U.S. Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Guardsman, or Marine.
  • The qualifying service member may have been killed in action.
  • The qualifying service member may have become 100% totally and permanently disabled as a direct result of a combat mission, subject to Freedom Alliance disability requirements.
  • The qualifying service member may have suffered a major limb amputation due to enemy action.
  • The qualifying service member may have been classified as a Prisoner of War or Missing in Action.
  • The qualifying service member may have received the Medal of Honor, Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Air Force Cross, or Coast Guard Cross.
  • Certain children of service members killed or immediately rendered 100% totally and permanently disabled in qualifying training accidents may also qualify.
  • Be in the spring semester of your senior year of high school, a high school graduate, or a full-time undergraduate, vocational, or trade-school student.
  • Be pursuing your first undergraduate, vocational, or trade-school degree or program.
  • Be under age 26 at the time of application.
  • Applicants who have completed college coursework must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

Requirements

  • Complete the current Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund application.
  • Provide documentation establishing the qualifying military service and circumstances of the applicant's parent.
  • Provide documentation establishing dependent-child eligibility.
  • Provide academic and enrollment information requested through the current application.
  • Provide all additional supporting documentation requested by Freedom Alliance.

How to Apply

  1. 1Review the Freedom Alliance eligibility criteria carefully to confirm that your parent's military service circumstances qualify.
  2. 2Confirm that you meet the age, education, first-degree, and applicable GPA requirements.
  3. 3Gather documentation establishing your relationship to the qualifying service member and the applicable military service, disability, casualty, award, POW, MIA, or training-accident status.
  4. 4Complete the online Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund application.
  5. 5Provide all requested academic, enrollment, and military-family documentation.
  6. 6Submit the complete application according to current Freedom Alliance instructions.
  7. 7Current recipients should follow the separate annual renewal process provided by Freedom Alliance.
