Florida Work Experience Program

The Florida Work Experience Program is a need-based student employment program that helps eligible Florida students gain paid work experience related to their educational programs and career goals. Participating colleges, universities, career centers, and educator preparation institutes coordinate available positions and determine local application procedures.

Eligibility

  • Be a Florida resident attending an eligible participating Florida postsecondary institution.
  • Attend a Florida state university, Florida College System institution, eligible nonprofit Florida postsecondary institution, district-operated career center, or educator preparation institute.
  • Demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.
  • Enroll at least half time as an undergraduate student at an eligible college or university.
  • Students in eligible career programs must enroll in a certificate program requiring at least 450 clock hours.
  • Students who already hold a bachelor's degree may participate if enrolled in an eligible educator preparation institute.
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Meet any additional employment, financial-aid, and eligibility requirements established by the participating institution or employer.

Requirements

  • Complete the FAFSA.
  • Apply for financial aid through the participating institution.
  • Contact the institution's financial-aid or student-employment office about available FWEP positions.
  • Meet at least half-time enrollment requirements.
  • Complete any institutional employment application and hiring documentation.
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Remain eligible for need-based financial aid.
  • Meet the attendance, work-performance, and employment standards of the assigned position.

How to Apply

  2. 2Confirm that the college, university, career center, or educator preparation institute participates in FWEP.
  3. 3Contact the institution's financial-aid, career-services, or student-employment office.
  4. 4Ask about available FWEP positions, local application procedures, and institutional deadlines.
  5. 5Submit any required student-employment application, résumé, or hiring documents.
  6. 6Complete interviews or employer screening when required.
  7. 7Accept an eligible position and complete all onboarding requirements.
  8. 8Continue meeting enrollment, financial-need, GPA, and job-performance standards.
