Edward T. and Mary A. Conroy Memorial Scholarship Program & Jean B. Cryor Memorial Scholarship Program

Eligibility

• Be at least 16 years old.
• Be enrolled full-time or part-time in a regular undergraduate, graduate, or professional program at an eligible institution.
• Students enrolled in an eligible two-year terminal certificate program whose coursework is acceptable for transfer toward an accredited bachelor's degree may qualify.
• Students enrolled in an eligible private career school may qualify.
• Be the son, daughter, or stepchild of a member of the United States Armed Forces who died as a result of military service or suffered a service-connected 100% permanent disability.
• Be the surviving spouse who has not remarried of a member of the United States Armed Forces who suffered a service-connected 100% permanent disability.
• Be an eligible veteran with a service-connected disability of at least 25% who has exhausted or is no longer eligible for federal veterans educational benefits.
• Be the son, daughter, stepchild, or surviving spouse of a victim who died as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
• Be an eligible Vietnam Conflict prisoner of war or missing-in-action service member, or the son, daughter, or stepchild of such an individual who met the applicable Maryland residency requirement.
• Be the son, daughter, stepchild, or surviving spouse who has not remarried of a qualifying state or local public safety employee who died or became 100% disabled in the line of duty.
• Be a qualifying state or local public safety employee or volunteer who became 100% disabled in the line of duty.
• For the Jean B. Cryor Memorial Scholarship, be the son, daughter, stepchild, or surviving spouse who has not remarried of a school employee who died or became 100% disabled because of an act of violence occurring in the line of duty.
• Generally be a Maryland resident at the time of application, subject to specified exceptions for certain public safety employees and their eligible family members.

Requirements

• Contact the financial aid office at the institution you attend or plan to attend for current application instructions.
• Complete the institution's Conroy or Cryor Memorial Scholarship application process by July 15.
• Submit documentation establishing the qualifying military, public safety, school employee, disability, death, terrorism-related, or family relationship circumstance.
• Submit all required documentation directly to the participating institution.
• Do not submit the application or supporting documentation directly to MHEC.
• Continue meeting applicable enrollment and eligibility requirements for renewal.

How to Apply

1. 1Contact your institution's financial aid office for the current Conroy and Cryor Memorial Scholarship application.
2. 2Determine which qualifying eligibility category applies to you.
3. 3Gather documentation supporting the qualifying military, public safety, September 11, POW or MIA, school employee, disability, death, or family relationship circumstance.
4. 4Complete the institution's application process by July 15.
5. 5Submit all supporting documentation directly to the institution.
6. 6Do not send scholarship applications or supplemental documentation directly to MHEC.
7. 7Contact the institution's financial aid office regarding award amounts, funding adjustments, and renewal status.
