Clark Opportunity Transfer Scholars Program

The Clark Opportunity Transfer Scholars Program provides need-based scholarship support and comprehensive academic, career, and research opportunities to engineering students transferring from Maryland community colleges to the University of Maryland. The program supports approximately 20 new transfer students each year and is designed to help talented transfer students complete their engineering degrees with strong financial and professional support.

Eligibility

  • Be transferring from a Maryland community college and admitted to the University of Maryland A. James Clark School of Engineering for Fall 2026, or be a University of Maryland student who previously attended a Maryland community college and will internally transfer into the Clark School of Engineering for Fall 2026.
  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
  • Demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA as determined by the University of Maryland Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • Preference is given to students who will be eligible to begin junior-level engineering coursework upon entering the Clark School of Engineering.

Requirements

  • File the FAFSA by the University of Maryland priority financial aid deadline.
  • External transfer students must apply to the University of Maryland for Fall 2026 admission by March 1.
  • Internal transfer students must complete the Clark School internal transfer application by the fifth business day of June.
  • If selected, participate in required cohort and advising meetings.
  • Maintain at least a 2.8 cumulative University of Maryland GPA.
  • Remain enrolled in the A. James Clark School of Engineering.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward an engineering degree.
  • Complete at least 12 credits per semester and 24 credits per academic year.
  • File the FAFSA annually by the university's priority deadline.
  • Participate in required incoming summer programming.
  • Complete a paid internship or on-campus research experience during the summer following the first year in the program.

  2. 2External Maryland community college transfer students should apply to the University of Maryland by March 1 for fall admission to the Clark School of Engineering.
  3. 3Internal University of Maryland transfer students should complete the Clark School internal transfer application by the fifth business day of June.
  4. 4New transfer students are automatically considered for the Clark Opportunity Transfer Scholars Program.
  5. 5Students may also complete the Clark School Scholarships Application to be considered for additional engineering scholarship opportunities.
  6. 6If selected as a Clark Opportunity Transfer Scholar, complete the required summer orientation and ongoing program participation requirements.
