Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans

The Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans program provides state financial aid to eligible dependent children and unremarried spouses of qualified Florida veterans. Recipients may use the award for an eligible undergraduate degree or certificate program at a participating Florida public or private postsecondary institution.

Eligibility

  • Be a dependent child or qualifying spouse of an eligible Florida veteran.
  • Dependent children must be between ages 16 and 22 and establish initial eligibility before turning 23.
  • A spouse of a disabled veteran must have been married to the qualified veteran for at least one year.
  • A spouse of a deceased veteran must be unremarried and apply within five years of the veteran's death.
  • The qualified veteran must meet the applicable Florida residency, military-status, disability, death, prisoner-of-war, or missing-in-action requirements.
  • Be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, as determined by the postsecondary institution.
  • Not have previously earned a bachelor's degree.
  • Enroll in an eligible undergraduate degree or certificate program.
  • Enroll in at least six credit hours, 180 clock hours, or the equivalent per term.
  • Not owe repayment or be in default under a state or federal grant, loan, or scholarship program unless satisfactory repayment arrangements have been made.

Requirements

  • Complete the Florida Financial Aid Application.
  • Answer every CSDDV question using information about the qualifying veteran.
  • Provide sufficient veteran and dependent information for certification by the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs.
  • Enroll in at least six credit hours, 180 clock hours, or the equivalent per funded term.
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative institutional GPA for renewal.
  • Earn at least six credit hours or 180 clock hours per funded term.
  • Notify the Florida Office of Student Financial Assistance of changes in name, address, or institution attended.

How to Apply

  2. 2Complete the Florida Financial Aid Application.
  3. 3Select the applicable CSDDV eligibility response in the demographic section.
  4. 4Complete every required question in the CSDDV application section.
  5. 5Provide accurate information concerning the qualifying veteran and the applicant's relationship to that veteran.
  6. 6Monitor the online student account for requests, eligibility updates, and award notices.
  7. 7Enroll at an eligible participating Florida institution and work with its financial-aid office to receive funding.
