Eligibility

  • Be a man who is a union member in good standing.
  • Belong to a local union affiliated with the Minnesota AFL-CIO.
  • Have held membership in the qualifying local union for at least one year before applying.
  • Plan to attend a class, program, or conference sponsored or endorsed by the AFL-CIO or an affiliated organization.

Requirements

  • Complete the Minnesota AFL-CIO Labor Leadership Grant application.
  • Describe the proposed class, program, or conference.
  • Provide program dates, sponsor, cost, and amount requested.
  • Obtain local union officer certification.

How to Apply

  1. 1Identify an eligible AFL-CIO or affiliate-sponsored or endorsed educational program.
  2. 2Complete the Labor Leadership Grant application.
  3. 3Select the Charles McKenna Leadership Grant.
  4. 4Provide the required program and cost information.
  5. 5Have the local union certify membership in good standing for at least one year.
  6. 6Submit the application to the Minnesota AFL-CIO Education Committee.
  7. 7The Education Committee selects recipients and determines award amounts.
