Eligibility

  • Be a bona fide Arkansas resident with financial need, accepted to, enrolled in, or on the alternate list for the UAMS College of Medicine.
  • Meet academic/character requirements and agree to the prescribed rural-practice curriculum and full-time approved Arkansas primary-care service.
  • Board interview and approval are required. Alternate-list participation does not guarantee admission and has additional contractual obligations.

Requirements

  • Request the current annual application and deadline from the Rural Programs Administrator; the reviewed landing page does not publish a dated current deadline, and its application links failed to load.
  • Funding remains a loan until service earns conversion. Published agreements provide one continuous whole year of approved rural practice per year of assistance.
  • Use a Board-approved rural community and qualifying primary-care field. Confirm current criteria, residency training and the service-start deadline in your contract.
  • The linked alternate agreement carries additional breach penalties; older materials require approved alternates admitted through this route to remain for four medical-school years with four years of rural service. Obtain the current alternate terms.
  • Renewal depends on eligibility and available funding. Failure to satisfy the agreement can require principal, interest and applicable penalties, with possible Arkansas medical-license consequences.

How to Apply

  1. 1Contact the UAMS Rural Programs Administrator for the current packet, funding and interview schedule.
  2. 2Provide admission/alternate status and financial-need records, and complete Board review.
  3. 3Review the current student or alternate loan contract before signing.
  4. 4Complete required training and report approved rural primary-care practice to earn loan conversion.
