Eligibility

  • Be an Arkansas resident for at least 12 months before enrollment and a US citizen or lawful permanent resident, as specified by the sponsor.
  • Be accepted and enrolled in an approved Teacher Academy/educator-preparation program at a participating institution; undergraduate, graduate and qualifying current-teacher routes are included.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress and commit to the required Arkansas teaching service. General enrollment at a college is not sufficient.

Requirements

  • Apply through SAMS within the spring or fall window. Spring enrollment is required for summer-session funding.
  • Agree to teach one full school year for each academic year receiving assistance, starting within one year of completion as specified by the sponsor.
  • Current teachers receiving funding while teaching begin the commitment period after Academy graduation. Rules also permit service at a school primarily serving public-school students with disabilities; confirm the approved placement.
  • Failure to complete funded academic years in good standing or the teaching commitment creates repayment obligations; review the agreement before accepting.
  • Undergraduate support is limited to four years/eight semesters/120 hours or completion; graduate support to two years/four semesters/60 hours or completion. Confirm community-college transfer and summer limits with ADHE.

How to Apply

  2. 2Submit the SAMS application and acceptance/eligibility records by January 10 for spring or July 1 for fall.
  3. 3Review the service and repayment agreement and how other aid affects the actual award.
  4. 4Maintain satisfactory progress; yearly renewal is reviewed after spring without a new application if eligibility continues, then complete and document required teaching.
