Eligibility

  • Be a current Arkansas Army or Air National Guard member in good standing and an Arkansas resident or eligible for in-state tuition under the governing rules.
  • Complete initial active-duty/basic training or qualifying ROTC basic-course credit; ask the Education Services Officer about approved exceptions.
  • Do not hold a bachelor's or higher degree. Foreign credentials require institutional equivalency review.
  • Enroll in a recognized Arkansas state-supported program, qualifying Arkansas-headquartered nonprofit Title IV private college, or approved postsecondary credential/certification program.
  • Meet institutional good standing and satisfactory academic progress; concurrent high-school/college students are not eligible.

Requirements

  • Apply for each semester or nontraditional course period through the Guard Education and Incentives Branch or Air Guard representative, not only a general SAMS application.
  • Submit within 60 days before to 30 days after the course starts. Late requests require an approved exception to policy; confirm your exact program dates.
  • Complete FAFSA, the Arkansas SAMS financial-aid application and applicable institutional aid applications.
  • Provide the signed application/statement of understanding and service/enrollment verification. Typed script-font signatures are not accepted under the rules.
  • Tuition coverage at private institutions may leave a balance. Books, room/board, certification test fees and other noncovered charges remain your responsibility; mandatory-fee support is funding-dependent.
  • Confirm continuation eligibility with the Guard if deployed or discharged, and any approved exception beyond 120 credits.

How to Apply

  1. 1Contact the Guard Education office or Air Guard representative and confirm institution/program eligibility.
  2. 2Complete FAFSA, SAMS and required institution aid applications.
  3. 3Submit the waiver application and signed statement of understanding for each course period within its relative-date window.
  4. 4Guard and school verify eligibility, then ADHE funds the institution; review uncovered charges and reapply for the next term.
