AFSCME Union Scholars Program

Eligibility

• Be an undergraduate sophomore or junior during the application and interview process.
• Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
• Demonstrate interest in social and economic justice through the labor union movement.
• Have a valid driver's license.
• Provide a faculty recommendation.
• Prior union or labor-movement experience is not required.

Requirements

• Complete the AFSCME Union Scholars application.
• Provide a faculty recommendation.
• Participate in a virtual interview if selected as a finalist.
• Complete the required orientation.
• Complete a six-week union-organizing field placement.
• Complete the program debrief.
• Complete required weekly reports and field responsibilities.

3. 3Request a faculty recommendation.
4. 4Submit the application by the published deadline.
5. 5Participate in a virtual interview if selected.
6. 6If chosen, attend program orientation.
7. 7Complete the six-week organizing field placement.
8. 8Complete required reports and organizing responsibilities.
9. 9Attend the final debrief.
10. 10Receive the scholarship after successfully completing program requirements.
